Custom Placeholders

An array of custom placeholder controls, including Page Icons, Hyperlink Lists, Author Contact, Image Gallery and What's New.

The EBDS provides a wealth of custom placeholder controls including:

Glossary of Terms

The EBDS' Glossary Placeholder allows easy creation of an A-Z sorted Glossary. Enter terms and definitions in any order and leave the sorting and A-Z Navigation to the placeholder. Renders as an HTML Definition Term List for maximum accessibility.

Page Icon

The Page Icon placeholder allows you to assign an image to a page which is used when other pages link to that page. You can see this in action on the EBDS Overview page.

Hyperlink List

A list of hyperlinks can be assigned to the page to provide further reading links, downloadable documents or other context-sensitive references. The placeholder even checks that the link is valid by making a request when the link is added and reporting if anything other than an HTTP 200 response is returned.

Author Contact

A placeholder at the foot of pages allows the author to include his or her contact details, or those of a colleague, so that a member of the public can make contact on the subject of the page. Useful for Public Sector web sites and Intranet environments.

Image Gallery

The author can supply the path of a Resource Gallery. Thumbnail images of all images in the gallery are displayed, and can be clicked to reveal a larger version of the image. For an example of an Image Gallery in use, see our Left Menu Navigation Layout examples page.

What's New

Latest Postings Placeholder

Particulary useful for home pages: displays the most recent postings in a channel, and optionally can also include postings in descendent channels.
