Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) is a standard feature of many web sites. Each FAQ is created as a posting, and an FAQ summary template displays each FAQ clearly in a list of clickable hyperlinks. When viewing a single FAQ, the user can navigate to the previous or next question in the list, or back to the list itself.
Display as News
By selecting the Important Page checkbox, users can dynamically add pages from across the site into a home-page News control, or a News Summary page, as well as an RSS feed.
Channel Summary Placeholder
You can use the Channel Summary placeholder to summarise all the postings within an author-defined channel and optionally all its descendant channels. You can define exactly what information to display about the postings and how that information is formatted. You can limit the number of postings to display and you can define how to sort the postings.
What really makes the Channel Summary placeholder powerful is metadata filtering. You can choose to only include postings which have a certain metadata item set to a defined value. This results in a very powerful way for you to summarise the pages within your site, leading to a rich interlinked structure that makes information very easy to find.
Media Specific CSS
EBDS Layouts include separate CSS definitions for printer and screen media. This prevents the annoying trait of web pages running off the right-hand side of the paper when they print. For screens, width is usually fixed to work well with common screen resolutions. For print, width is fluid so that it makes maximum use of the paper. Print CSS also hides navigation controls, search boxes and other page content which is of no use in the printed form.
Smart 404
If a user requests a page on your site that does not exist, EBDS examines the URL and intelligently queries MondoSearch to try to help the user find what he or she is looking for. So, if a user requests my-ebds-site.com/support but you have no page at that URL, EBDS will automatically pass "support" into MondoSearch and display the results.
Friendly URL
You can assign any Posting or Channel to a URL simply by typing the URL in as a Custom Property (assuming of course that the URL points to the correct web server). We use this at Cubik to make www.onestopcms.co.uk automatically point to the OneStopCMS channel in this web site.
