Overview
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 is a sophisticated and highly configurable solution. However, in the area of website content management, it does not provide a ‘website in a box’ and that is where Cubik’s EBDS comes to your aid.
EBDS 3.0 for MOSS 2007 will, in time, enhance core MOSS 2007 functionality as EBDS 1.0 did for MCMS 2002, including features such as:
Developer Utilities
A collection of web controls, field controls and utility classes to enable a MOSS developer to quickly deploy standard and accessible MOSS components, for example:
- An XML based content query control which can format the results of a CAML query using an XSLT style sheet;
- An extensive utility application to enable developers to quickly work around identified MOSS deficiencies;
- An accessible version of the rich HTML field control to ensure that HTML from the field is served in an accessible manner.
Accessible Views
The Accessible Views feature will enable the dynamic creation of multiple highly accessible views of a published web page. The site visitor will have the option to select one of these views as an alternative to the standard graphical view of the site. Views will include:
- A black on white text-only view, optimised for screen-reader software;
- A high-contrast (white on black) view;
- A black on white view inclusive of images, appropriate for use on a low-bandwidth connection or via a mobile browser;
- A high-contrast version of the same.
Dynamically Generated Site Map
As website content is updated (addition, deletion or modification of sections, sub-sections and web pages) a site map will be dynamically updated to reflect the current website structure.
Meta Data Support
EBDS 3.0 will support the application of Meta Data to pages and to assets referenced within pages (documents and images).
Meta Data will be defined via MOSS content types. Cubik can provide Meta Data implementations for industry standards such as the Electronic Government Meta Data Standard (EGMS) and/or Dublin Core Meta Data Standard (Dublin Core). In a local authority context, the allowed values for the "Subject.Category" EGMS field can be sourced from the Integrated Public Sector Vocabulary (IPSV).
In addition, custom Meta Data schemes can be configured as required. So, for example, it would be possible to create ‘Jobs’ Meta Data (Job Title, Location, Temporary or Permanent, Full-Time or Part-Time, Salary or Hourly Rate), ‘Publications’ Meta Data (Publication Title, Topic, Author, Date of Publication) and ‘Events’ Meta Data (Event Title, Location, Type, Start Date, End Date, Start Time, End Time) and so forth.
Search
EBDS 3.0 will offer pre-built and configurable integration with the content indexing features of MOSS 2007 for site-wide search on content.
Forms Builder
The EBDS 3.0 Forms Builder will enable authors to create web forms using a simple interface; all authors will need to do is to enter their questions and the type of controls required for a response, including items such as email address, text box, text area, single and multiple checkboxes, dropdowns, radio buttons and even file attachments.
Friendly URLs
This is the ability to define multiple URLs to which a page will respond.
