Usage Scenarios

Some example implementation scenarios and associated licensing requirements.

Introduction

The range of SharePoint Products and Technologies can be applied to a number of different scenarios, with a significant variation in the total cost of the solution.

The scenarios below are for illustrative purposes only and detailed discussion will be required prior to agreeing a definitive configuration for any given client requirement.

1. A 'Simple' Single Site Intranet

Requirement:

  • A single intranet site with integrated document management requirements;
  • Default SharePoint 'look and feel', with some colour/styling variation to make the site 'organisation-specific' if required.

Solution:

  • Utilise Windows SharePoint Services 3.0/SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition.

2. Intranet with Multiple Departmental Sites

Requirement:

  • An small/medium sized intranet consiting of multiple departmental sites;
  • Searching to be implemented across all sites;

Solution:

  • Implement using MOSS 2007 for Search/SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition.

3. A Sophisticated Multi-Site Intranet

Requirement:

  • As per Scenario 2 above, but with significant customisation in the user interface and utilising advanced MOSS 2007 features such as 'MySite' personal space and records management.

Solution:

  • Implement using MOSS 2007, MOSS 2007 Standard Edition CAL plus SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition (subject to scale).

4. Sophisticated Intranet Site with Internet Publising

Requirement:

  • A sophisticated multi-site intranet, with the ability for authorised users to publish content to the public-facing website.

Solution:

  • Implement as per Scenario 3 above, plus:
  • MOSS 2007 for Internet Sites with SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition (subject to scale).

5. Web Content Management

Requirement:

  • Provide a capability to manage the structure and content of the public-facing website; no integration with the company intranet.

Solution:

  • MOSS 2007 for Internet Sites with SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition (subject to scale).
