MOSS 2007 for Search

A standard component of MOSS 2007, MOSS 2007 for Search can be implemented 'standalone' or to extend the functionality of WSS 3.0, providing the ability to search for information in enterprise intranet and web sites.

Overview

Microsoft’s Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search product provides a search-only solution for intranets and public-facing Web sites. This product meets the core search needs of enterprises by offering simplicity and ease of use while helping to increase productivity.

Versions

Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search is licensed per server (no CALs are required). The following editions of Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search are available:

  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search (Standard Edition): This product provides core search functionality for common data sources and web content — a subset of the search features available in Office SharePoint Server 2007. It does not include 'People Search' or search for structured data sources, nor does it provide the other information management features and functionality included with Office SharePoint Server 2007.

    Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search Standard Edition is limited to indexing 500,000 documents. It can be upgraded to Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search Enterprise Edition.

  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search (Enterprise Edition): This product provides core search functionality as outlined above; however, there is no technical limit as to the number of documents the Enterprise Edition can index.

Both the Standard and Enterprise editions of Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search can be upgraded to Office SharePoint Server 2007. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search provides core search functionality for customers who want to quickly and easily deploy an enterprise-grade intranet or Internet search solution today, with the flexibility of upgrading to the full Microsoft Office SharePoint Server functionalitt such as portal sites, business intelligence (BI), business process management (BPM), Web content management, forms, and enhanced searching in the future.
