.NET Framework
Software for Windows systems which allows developers to run programs they have written in C# or another .NET language.

A

Accessibility
The use of techniques when authoring a web site to ensure the content can be consumed by the widest audience possible, regardless of physical disabilities or restricted Internet access.
ASP.NET
Technology which allows the dynamic generation of web content on a Web Server through computer code, e.g. by combining data in a file with data in a database.
Author
A user role in Content Management Server: somebody who can create pages for a web site through the authoring facility of CMS.

C

C#
A computer code language used to write the program code behind Cubik's E-Business Developer Suite.
Content Management
The technique of storing content in a database so that it may be updated easily and presented via multiple media.
Content Management Server
Abbreviated to CMS: Microsoft product from the Windows Server System family, which extends the .NET Framework to give it in-built Content Management capabilities.
CSS
Cascading Style Sheets - a mechanism by which a developer and/or designer can describe how to present an HTML document (web page) on a device such as a web browser or printer.

Design
The discipline of producing a structure, look and feel for a web site which pleases the eye, and is easy to use.
Domain Name
A memorable name (e.g. cubik.co.uk) which identifies a company, product or concept on the Internet. Usually prefixed with “www.” to refer to a related web site, and an @ sign to produce an e-mail address.

E-Business Developer Suite
A suite of components and pre-built layouts providing developers with a framework to produce Microsoft Content Management Server web sites quickly and easily.
Editor
A user role in Content Management Server: somebody who can create pages for a web site through the authoring facility of CMS, and who can approve or reject content produced by an Author.
Extranet
A web site or part of a web site which is aimed at a known audience, who gain access through a username and password.

HTML
HyperText Markup Language: The language used to describe to a web browser how content in a web page should be structured.

Internet
Abbreviation for International Network. A network of inter-connected computers which spans the globe.
Intranet
A network built upon the same technologies as the Internet, but restricted in scope to a single organisation.

Layout
In the context of OneStopCMS: a consistent set of page templates for a web site that can be reused by multiple customers, each time combined with a unique Theme.

Moderator
A user role in Content Management Server: somebody who approves the metadata and date of publication for web pages.
MondoSearch
Search engine software produced by Mondosoft which integrates with Microsoft CMS to add site searching capabilities.

OneStopCMS
Cubik's approach to Microsoft CMS deployments, combining Microsoft CMS, Cubik's E-Business Developer Suite and MondoSearch, and offered via shared hosted servers for a one-off setup and annual right-to-use fee.

PDA
Personal Digital Assistant - hand-held computer with small LCD screen and stylus for user input. Examples include Palm, Clie and Ipaq.
PDF
Portable Document Format - electronic file which contains a document usually intended to be printed. Viewable on many software platforms.

Resource
Content Management Server term for non-text content such as an image or PDF document.
RSS
Really Simple Syndication - specification for listing the content or news stories available on a web site through XML for the purposes of displaying the information as links in another web site or to feed into News Aggregation software.

Site Map
Page which displays links to all content on a web site in a structure, to inform the user of the relative position of one piece of content to the others.
SQL Server
Microsoft Enterprise Database Server product (often pronounced Sequel Server). Used as the data store for applications built on the Windows Server System. Required as part of a Microsoft CMS deployment.

Template
Content Management Server object which defines where the various components of a web page (e.g. Header, Footer, Navigation Bar) are located. Used to enforce site consistency.
Theme
A deliverable to all OneStopCMS customers: a unique set of CSS documents to apply the customer's unique branding and design to their chosen Layout.

XML
Mechanism by which structured data can be represented in plain text, making it easy to read and distribute over the Internet.
